The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI) is located in Hampton, Virginia, a city of rich culture and history. When you arrive at the world's largest free-standing proton facility, you'll immediately take notice of our carefully manicured lawns, Silver Maple trees and park-style benches all designed to create a calming and relaxing environment.
When you walk into our facility, you'll find comfort in our design. Our atrium features floor- to-ceiling windows, a flood of natural lighting, greenery and light colored décor that sets our facility apart from other healthcare settings.
You will be greeted by our receptionist who will be ready to assist you with your appointment or answer any questions you may have about our facility. If you have an appointment scheduled our receptionist will log you into our system and notify the nurse of your arrival.
At our center, we have two spacious lobby areas. These areas have a living room style design with refreshments, magazines, and flat screen televisions for your enjoyment. Many times our lobby areas prove to be great opportunities for individuals to fellowship with others who are undergoing proton therapy.
At the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute, we understand the undeniable benefits of proton therapy for children and we are dedicated to helping children locally, regionally and even nationally.
Our playroom, a project inspired by Mrs. Norma B. Harvey, is filled with games, toys, books and activities for your child's enjoyment. The playroom is a comfortable setting with colorful walls, large windows and a lake view.
Our main control room is staffed by immensely detailed electrical engineers, software and mechanical specialists who oversee cyclotron and beam line operations. Within the main control room, staff monitor the performance of the proton beam delivery system and deliver the proton beam to the appropriate treatment rooms.
The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute's Nurses' Station is staffed by dedicated registered nurses who add to the level of efficiency and compassionate care of our center. All of our nurses work hand in hand with HUPTI doctors to ensure a pleasant experience for all of our patients and visitors.
In our gantry rooms, our patients receive their individualized proton therapy treatments. Patients lie on the couch of the gantry treatment room in their custom-fit immobilization device that ensures precise positioning, a process guided by our highly-skilled radiation therapists. The nozzle of the gantry has the ability to rotate 360 degrees around the patient enabling doctors to target tumors in difficult regions of the body.
At HUPTI, we are equipped with the most sophisticated and advanced technology to date allowing us to administer proton therapy treatments at angles and precision unlike any other treatment modality.
The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute has one fixed beam treatment room. In this room, the nozzle remains in a stationary position and patients are positioned relative to the nozzle of the beam delivery system. Often times, patients will sit in an upright position while receiving their proton therapy treatments. Eye, prostate, head and neck tumors are typically treated in this treatment room.
