HAMPTON, VIRGINIA, July 10, 2017 –

The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI) eases human misery and saves lives by utilizing more than 100 years of combined clinical proton therapy experience. Unlike traditional cancer therapy, Proton Therapy is non-invasive and does not require a hospital stay – the results are reduced side effects, spared healthy tissue surrounding the affected area and a recurrence rate of less than 10%. This treatment is FDA-approved and covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance providers. HUPTI is conveniently located in Hampton, Virginia and currently treats breast, lung, prostate, head and neck, GI, brain and spine and pediatric cancers.

The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute is the brainchild of Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey. With 5 treatment rooms (4 gantry and 1 fixed-beam), HUPTI is the largest free-standing proton therapy cancer treatment center in the world and the only one in Hampton Roads. HUPTI has treated over 1,900 patients to date.

Patient AirLift Services eases the barrier of transportation by connecting qualifying patients in need of access to specialized treatment, like Proton Therapy, with a network of volunteer pilots that love to fly and love to help people at the same time. PALS also arranges the ground transportation from the airport to HUPTI, so there is a seamless door to door experience.

“We are excited to be partnering with HUPTI in an effort to remove transportation as a barrier to accessing the best possible treatment for the best possible outcome,” says Eileen Minogue, PALS Executive Director. “The doctors have the talents and our PALS pilots have the wings.”

Patient AirLift Services (PALS) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit that arranges free flights through our volunteer pilot network for individuals requiring medical diagnosis, treatment or follow-up, for military personnel and their families, or for other compassionate humanitarian purposes. PALS is located in Farmingdale, NY and has arranged over 12,500 flights to date.
