Skin Cancer Screenings To Be Offered At HU Proton Therapy Institute’s Health And Wellness Expo
Hampton, Va. – Free skin cancer screenings will be offered at the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute’s (HUPTI) upcoming Health and Wellness Expo on Saturday, June 19th, from 1p.m. until 2:30 p.m., by the medical staff of the HU Skin of Color Research Institute (HUSCRI). The expo will run from 11a-3p at 40 Enterprise Parkway in Hampton.
According to the American Cancer Society Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States with more than one million skin cancers diagnosed each year. That’s more than cancers of the prostate, breast, lung, colon, uterus, ovaries, and pancreas combined. One out of five Americans will develop skin cancer.
At least once a year, a person should have a clinical skin exam, either by his or her healthcare provider or by a dermatologist. A clinical skin exam is a visual exam of the skin done by a trained healthcare professional.
Prostate cancer and other vital screenings such as diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), vision, stress and digital computerized foot scans will also be available. Health vendors, tours and children’s activities will be available throughout the day.
Health expo sponsors include Ion Beam Applications (IBA), Hampton Convention and Visitors Bureau, Bon Secours and Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group.
