October 27, 2010 - HU CELEBRATES THE OPENING OF THE WORLD'S LARGEST PROTON THERAPY INSTITUTE
Hampton University, along with the Honorable Gov. Bob McDonnell and hundreds of guests, celebrated the grand opening of the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI), the world’s largest free-standing proton center, on Thursday.
Free skin cancer screenings will be offered at the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute's (HUPTI) upcoming Health and Wellness Expo on Saturday, June 19th, from 1p.m. until 2:30 p.m., by the medical staff of the HU Skin of Color Research Institute (HUSCRI). The expo will run from 11a-3p at 40 Enterprise Parkway in Hampton.

The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI) will host an informational seminar Wed, April 28, at 6:30 pm, at the HUPTI Welcome Center in the Peninsula Town Center in Hampton. The general public is encouraged to come and hear about cancer prevention tips and proton therapy cancer treatment. Refreshments will be served.

The Department of Defense has awarded Hampton University a $1.3 million grant to improve breast cancer imaging and therapy research, in collaboration with the Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) and the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab).

December 8, 2008 - HU PROTON THERAPY INSTITUTE CONSTRUCTION COMPLETE
After 85 million pounds of concrete and 70 tons of steel, the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI) construction is complete. HUPTI is 98,000 square feet, making it the world's largest free-standing proton therapy facility, located off Magruder Boulevard in Hampton.
August 1, 2008 - HU AWARDED GRANT TO DEVELOP IMPROVED PLANNING SYSTEM FOR PROTON THERAPY
The Center for Innovative Technology announced that the Hampton University physics department, in collaboration with Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), has received a $487,910 grant from the Commonwealth Technology Research Fund (CTRF) for the development of BioEclipse, the first biologically optimized treatment planning system for proton radiotherapy cancer treatment.
