Human Resources Manager

The Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute (HUPTI) is seeking a Human Resources Manager to work with other professionals and support staff.

HUPTI is the nation’s 8th proton therapy facility and the largest free-standing proton clinic in the world. The state-of-the-art treatment and research center has four gantry rooms and one fixed beam room. HUPTI has been treating prostate, brain, lung, pediatric, head and neck, breast, CNS and other cancers since August 2010. HUPTI uses IBA’s Proteus 235 proton therapy delivery system, VeriSuite for IGTR, Mosaiq Oncology Information System (Elektra), Eclipse Proton Treatment Planning system (Varian) and 4D-PET/CT for simulation (Philips).

The Human Resources Manager maintains and enhances the organization’s human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and Human Resources policies, programs, and practices. The Human Resources Manager reports to the Executive Director of Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute.  Please note this is an entry level position.


  • Ensures that human resources functions are managed and comply with all legal requirements
  • Possess knowledge of the various laws (federal, state, and/or local) that affect human resources processes/procedures
  • Maintains all new hires in Ceredian/Dayforce systems
  • Maintains personnel files as required by law
  • Processes all status/pay changes to include, but not limited to, promotions, transfers, demotions, leaves of absence, terminations and resignations
  • Communicates with each department regarding employment needs and seeking the necessary approvals from the University’s President regarding hiring
  • Provides guidance to the management team regarding the disciplinary process
  • Manages and maintains Bio-Metric time clock system
  • Reviews and enters all requested sick and vacation leave into Ceredian/DayForce system
  • Conducts new employee orientation
  • Files and follows through with all Worker’s Compensation claims
  • Maintains employee benefit programs to include processing new enrollments, changes, cancellations and communicating all updates to the employees
  • Assists HUPTI’s Executive Director and departmental Directors with annual evaluations
  • Reviews and approves requests to ensure compliance with the Family Medical Leave Act
  • Develops and performs periodic audits of all human resources records to ensure legal compliance and accurate documentation
  • Completes and compile annual AAP report
  • Keeps employee handbooks up to date
  • Assists with implementation of clinical compliance plan that includes:


    • HIPPA and other state and federal laws applicable to the privacy and security of individually identifiable health information;
    • OSHA compliance as applicable to HUPTI’s clinical practice


  • Collects and maintains records, certificates and licenses from all clinical employees to ensure that the employee is meeting all applicable safety and regulatory guidelines as mandated by the clinic and appropriate governing agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university preferably in Human Resource Management
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Possess at least 3 -5 years of human resources experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and internet fluency
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely answer questions and convey information to staff and management
  • Excellent conflict resolution ability
